TYPE OF COURSE: This course will review the microbiology, epidemiology and pathogenicity of some of the most common bacterial zoonotic pathogens in Norway. In addition, the course will introduce the use of modern genetic methods in surveillance, outbreak investigations and research relevant to public health, food safety and veterinary medicine. The course is intended for PhD students in the field of biology, but Master students and postdoctoral fellows are welcome as well. The maximum number of participants is 14.

PREPARATORY WORK: All students are expected to bring and present an A2 (420mm x 594mm) poster describing their current research project and the reason for choosing this course.

Cases designed as real-life scenarios, like disease and outbreak investigations, tracing of pathogens and implementation of preventive measures and will involve some interpretation of bioinformatics analyses.
