About Membership

To become an IBA member you must be registered as a graduate student or postdoctoral fellow in a biology program at a Norwegian university or research institute, and must be active in research on infections and/or antimicrobials (if you don’t fulfill the criteria , you can be registered as an IBA associate, read more under).

Participants will gain access to a national network focusing on infections and antibiotics, with the possibility to apply for travel and accommodation support for program activities not provided at the home university.

You are expected to present your research project and progress at the annual IBA meeting. All courses and the annual meeting can be attended for free by members.

N.B. Participation in the course Principles of Infection Biology is mandatory for all IBA PhD students that are early in their PhD education. For the course in 2022 (held in late May/early June), all PhD students starting their PhD on September 1st 2020 or later are obliged to participate. If you have questions, please contact your local IBA director of studies.

With this course, IBA aims to provide a thorough background in the basic concepts behind infection biology spanning the disciplines of host-microbe interaction and infections caused by bacteria, eukaryotic microbes and viruses. IBA wants to ensure that all IBA PhD members acquire a common knowledge base and start building a national and international scientific network early in their PhD progression.
