Suggested ECTS: You will receive a certificate stating recommended ECTS for this course (2 ECTS for those attending the full course – both lecture and practical sessions). You can apply to your home institution for getting the course accepted as ECTS in your degree. Your home institution decides if and how many credits you will get.

Course description: This course will review the microbiology, epidemiology and pathogenicity of some of the most common bacterial zoonotic pathogens in Norway. In addition, the course will introduce the use of modern genetic methods in surveillance, outbreak investigations and research relevant to public health, food safety and veterinary medicine. During one-week course, there will be practical sessions where the students will get a practical approach on the microbial genomics and metagenomics data analysis with no bioinformatical skills are expected.

Who is it for: The full version of the course (both lecture and practical sessions) is primarily intended for PhD students who are members of the National Graduate School in Infection Biology and Antimicrobials (IBA), but postdoctoral fellows can also apply. There will be a limit on the number of participants for the practical sessions and priority will be given to the PhD students. The registrations will be accepted on a first come first served basis in case the limit is exceeded.

On the other hand, the lectures will be open to all IBA members with an online participation option.

Please fill in the registration form also for attendance to only the lecture sessions and select online or in person option in this case.

Organization: The course will consist of lectures and practical hands-on sessions that are arranged via collaboration with ELIXIR Norway. The students will present a poster (can be a digital poster) describing their current research project and its relevance to the course. More information on the practical sessions and the digital poster option will follow closer to the course beginning.

For those who have already registered for the postponed course starting August 30:  if you want to participate in this course, please fill the registration form again or send an e-mail.

Travel and accommodation: The travel and accommodation for IBA PhD and research track members will be supported by IBA. Please sign up here if you need support for travel and accommodation: https://nettskjema.no/a/205299
