About the lecturer:

Espen Rimstad has been a professor in virology for 20 years at Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). Basic education as a veterinarian, PhD in virology. Main research topics have been lentivirus infections (HIV-like viruses) in small ruminants and virus infections in Atlantic salmon. The latter encompasses infectious salmon anemia virus (an influenza-like virus) and Piscine orthoreovirus, a ubiquitous virus that infects erythrocytes of salmon. There are no viruses infecting mammalian erythrocytes. He was a partner in an EU project where companion animals as a source of viruses for human beings were focused.
