Title: Coronavirus in cattle – research and strategy behind the first national control program. Similarities and differences to SARS-CoV-2

Abstract: The talk will have a short introduction to diseases in domesticated animals caused by coronaviruses and how these are handled. The main focus will be on previous and ongoing research on  coronavirus infection in cattle, and how this has led to the establishment of the first national systematic control program for the virus in the cattle population in the world. There will also be some attention given to similarities and differences between research and handling of  bovine coronavirus and SARS-CoV-2.

About the lecturer: Maria Stokstad is a professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at NMBU and a veterinary clinician. Her research focuses on infectious diseases in production animals and she teaches internal medicine and infection medicine to veterinary students. She has led the Norwegian veterinary research activity on coronavirus in cattle the last decade.
