Guidelines – travel and accomodation

As an IBA member, you are eligible to apply for funding for travel and accommodation costs to participate in IBA supported activities. In general, we only offer financing for IBA PhD, research track student and postdoc members.

Please make a request for funding before the activity takes place to your IBA coordinator.

The process of funding is that you pay upfront for travel and accommodations, and that you apply for reimbursement after you are back. Please make sure to keep all your receipts and boarding passes and contact the IBA coordinator if you have questions.

Support from IBA is based on a co-funding principle to allow support of as many participants as possible and to keep costs down.

The trip must be conducted at the lowest price, albeit so that the travel time is not unreasonably long.

 Travel support:

Travel via train/one flight (including return trip): Up to 2000 nok

Travel longer distances (two flights/sleeper train, including return trip): Up to 3500 nok

Accommodation support:

Up to 1300 nok per night

In the unlikely event that it is not possible for you to keep your travel within these amounts and your home institution is unable to pay for the remainder, please send us an e-mail. We will determine whether we can cover costs beyond this on a case-by-case basis.

*Special Note!*

We have a reciprocal partnership with NDPIA and as such, IBA students can participate in their courses. In these instances, travel and ancillary costs are covered by NDPIA but if required, IBA support may also apply. For NDPIA courses, see here.

We also fund IBA members to attend relevant courses offered through EMBL/EMBO, the Wellcome Connecting Science program and the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. See the list of courses here – EMBL/EMBO  (here), Wellcome Connecting Science (here) and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (here). (But please note, we can only fund courses, not conferences, organised by these agencies). If you have questions, feel free to contact us.
